SIN MING FOODIE TRAIL
Sun, 2 April 2023
9am to 11.30am

At one time, they used to call this place “Hailam Sua”, meaning Hainanese Hill. It was also referred to as the 5th Milestone, or Gor Kho Chiok in Hokkien.

Not too far away, there was also another Hainanese village near the 7th mile at Upper Thomson Road. There is a reason why these Hainanese folks settled so far away from the downtown core.

Today, the Sin Ming area is fast rearranging their landscape. Our tour will focus on the stretch commonly referred to as “Street Foods” or otherwise known as “Walking Street”.

We’ll discuss why the folks at Sin Ming aren’t so happy with the chicken population. Note: The burgeoning “free-range” chicken population is a new phenomenon (in Singapore) which is now happening island-wide.

We intend to make this tour a happy tour, so our focus will be on the foodie folks (eg: Nam Kee Chicken Rice and Chicken House, and many more) and some happy storytelling.

This tour will begin at Upper Thomson MRT and end at Marymount MRT. Meet me at Upper Thomson MRT, 9am on the 2nd April, 2023.
