The history, culture, and heritage of Nee Soon Village have not been well documented. In the past, people did not take the North seriously. However, things are changing.

The new Springleaf MRT has brought some life to this once-sleepy hamlet. Dozens of eateries are popping up, and as newer establishments rush in to capitalize on the newfound fortune, older shops are stepping up to the challenge.

Ngee Fou Ampang Yong Tau Foo has been here for decades, and I know them well since they were and still are my neighbours. In the 1970s, the landed real estate in Springleaf was worth next to nothing, and nobody believed that the North would ever become prosperous.

It’s been almost 50 years since then, and now the landed homes are suddenly worth a fortune. How the tide has changed! I invite you to join me for a rustic walk through an old hometown full of old-world charm.

We will meet at Springleaf MRT (Exit 2) at 9 am on Sunday, March 24th, 2024. This tour will end at the same Springleaf MRT at around 11:30 am, just before the lunch crowds arrive.
