Join me on a thought-provoking and in-depth walking tour that explores the evolving landscape of Singapore’s sex industry and the lives of those within it. This is a long and intensive tour, offering a rare glimpse into both the professional side of the trade and the struggles of the more marginalised street workers.
On this tour, we’ll delve into the history of the industry, from the arrival of the first shipload of sex workers in Singapore many years ago to the rise of the digital sex trade today. Along the way, we’ll pass by brothels that have long since closed, as well as some that are re-opening in the modern era.
This tour provides an opportunity to explore the realities of this profession without judgement. For those curious, we’ll also stop by “Kin Chio Kar,” where women can gain insight into the life of a sex worker in Singapore’s red-light district. It’s a chance to understand both the professional sex workers and the street walkers who continue to work in traditional ways.
This is an adult-only tour, not suitable for children, and it involves a fair amount of walking, starting at Keong Saik Road and ending at Flanders Square. Please consider your physical ability before signing up.
We will meet at the coffeeshop on the corner of Neil Road and Keong Saik Road at 9am. Don’t forget to bring your MRT card, as we’ll be taking the train to Farrer Park station.
We aim to finish around 1pm or 1:30pm, but be prepared for a comprehensive experience. At the end of the tour, I’ll be having lunch at 22 Flanders Square, now a Japanese restaurant. This location also holds a tragic history – back in 2008, a sex worker named Coco Ng was killed here in an unsolved case. It’s a sombre reminder of the darker side of this industry.
If you’re ready for an eye-opening and candid look into the world of sex work in Singapore, join me on this unique and insightful journey.
