Join us for a unique walking tour exploring the intriguing history of consorts, concubines, mistresses, secret lovers, and wives. These roles, tied by love, affection, and intimacy, have shaped societies throughout history.

In the family, the wife holds the most important role, keeping everything in order. Others, like concubines and mistresses, had different duties with less responsibility. Though it may sound old-fashioned, these roles still exist today. From emperors to modern times, “men of distinction” have kept multiple partners, and Singapore is no exception.

Bukit Pasoh, with its beautifully conserved shophouses and buildings, was once home to many women who found comfort with wealthy men. These women mastered the Art of Affection & Care, but was it as easy as it sounds?

We’ll take a leisurely stroll down this historic street, imagining life as a concubine or mistress. Bring your dictionary to define the true meanings of consort, concubine, mistress, secret lover, and wife. Don’t forget your camera—many spots are very Instagrammable.

Meeting Point: Outram Park MRT station (Exit 4, towards Dorsett Hotel, street level) at 9am on Sat, 28th Sept 2024. The tour will end around 11:30am or 12:00pm.

We’ll decide the exact endpoint as we go, so bring your bus card just in case.
