CIVIC DISTRICT WALKING TOUR
Sat, 31st Aug 2024
9am to 11.30am

Explore the country’s heritage in this walking tour that delves into the rich history and heritage of Singapore.

We meet in front of The Arcade, just above Raffles MRT, at 9am on Sat, 31st Aug 2024. This isn’t just any sight-seeing tour – it’s an immersive experience where you’ll find out about our city’s storied past and get a chance to truly appreciate its heritage.

Many of us walk past the historic highlights of Raffles Place and the Civic District without a second thought. This tour is designed to change that. You’ll discover some of our last remaining monuments and buildings, learning the stories behind their existence and significance.

One such example is the Old Supreme Court. Despite its classical appearance, it was constructed relatively recently in 1939, during a period when Singapore was grappling with housing a rapidly growing population.

This tour will provide our senior citizens with a nostalgic journey through familiar landmarks, while offering younger participants a fascinating glimpse into the past.

As we stroll along the Singapore River, you’ll gain insights into historical events and figures that shaped our nation. By the end of the tour, you’ll understand the intriguing disagreements between Sir Stamford Raffles and William Farquhar, the latter now recognised by many as “The Unsung Hero of Singapore.”

Don’t miss this chance to reconnect with our heritage and gain a deeper understanding of Singapore’s history. Mark your calendar for this memorable experience. We aim to conclude by 12pm, leaving you with a richer appreciation for our city’s unique past.
