Explore the hidden stories of The Forbidden Hill on our upcoming walking tour!
While much has been said about Fort Canning, many tales are often repeated. Join us as we delve deeper into the lesser-known facts and myths surrounding this historic hill. Our tour will uncover the rich history of both the common folk and the powerful figures who once roamed these grounds.
Today, Fort Canning stands as a beautifully manicured park in the heart of the city. However, its transformation has come at a cost – the removal of the old cemetery has erased some of its old-world charm. Apart from a few plaques honouring notable individuals, little remains to remind us that this hill was once a final resting place for many young explorers.
This hill offers a plethora of stories, from nature walks to wartime tales. While many tours focus on specific aspects like the Battle of Singapore, where General Percival made his stand in The Battle Box, our tour will be different. We’ll provide an all-encompassing experience, covering a wide range of subjects as we explore.
We’ll discuss the lives of the elite and the everyday people, such as the carpenter Chow Ah Chi, who was reportedly sent as a scout by the British East India Company before Sir Stamford Raffles established a foothold in Singapore. Rumour has it that Raffles rewarded him with a residence at 1 Lavender Street!
Join us on Saturday, 22nd June 2024, at 9 am, as we uncover whether these stories are fact, myth, or fiction. We’ll meet at Dhoby Ghaut MRT, Exit B, at street level, and conclude our journey at the lively Funan Centre, now simply known as “Funan.” You’ll discover that Raffles’ botanic gardens once extended all the way to this modern landmark.
Don’t miss out on this engaging and informative tour that promises to reveal the hidden gems of The Forbidden Hill. Book your spot today!
