Discover the gritty past of squeaky-clean Singapore on a captivating walking tour through Queenstown, a neighbourhood that once buzzed with danger and intrigue. While Singapore is now one of the safest countries in the world, it wasn’t always this way. Between the 1950s and mid-1970s, Queenstown was a hotspot for crime, vice, and dramatic police showdowns. This tour takes you back to that turbulent era, where the line between heroes and villains was often blurred.
We’ll visit the site of one of Singapore’s most infamous gunfights, where police clashed with notorious gangster Oh Kim Kee, a figure revered as a “Robin Hood” of the underworld. His daring escapes and dramatic downfall read like a Hollywood script, culminating in a thrilling shootout on Sims Avenue. Along the way, we’ll explore stories of solved cases, unsolved mysteries, and the shadowy world of brothels and kidnappings that once defined this area.
The tour begins at Queenstown MRT Station at 9am. Take Exit B to your left and meet at Taxi Stand F44. Be prepared for a fairly long walk, ending around 1pm to 1:30pm at Flanders Square, where we’ll revisit the chilling unsolved murder of sex worker Coco Ng. Don’t forget your MRT card, as we’ll take the train from Commonwealth MRT to Farrer Park MRT during the tour.
Join us for a morning of history, mystery, and a glimpse into Singapore’s darker days. Who knows? You might even help crack a cold case or two.
