THE COMFORT WOMEN OF SINGAPORE
Sat, 20th Jan 2024
9am to 11.30am

Join us on an intriguing journey through Singapore’s hidden history with our exclusive “Dark Heritage” walking tour. Delve into the untold stories that some may wish to forget but deserve to be remembered.

Embark on a riveting exploration from Teo Hong Road to Jalan Jurong Kechil, down to Pulau Blakang Mati, as we shed light on the often-overlooked chapter of “comfort women.” While the subject might be deemed taboo in Singapore, it’s an essential part of our local history.

Uncover the layers of history, where “Sook Ching” is a familiar term, yet the plight of “comfort women” remains largely unspoken. Even the “infant massacre” gains more attention on Battle of Singapore tours.

As time marches on, the number of surviving comfort women dwindles. Today, we pay homage to their stories, guided by Professor Kevin Blackburn’s newly released book, “Comfort Women of Singapore.” We’ll particularly honour the late Kim Bok-Dong, a former “comfort woman” in Singapore.

Let’s gather at 9am on Sat, 20th Jan 2024 at Outram Park MRT, Exit 4, for a thought-provoking tour that will unravel the where, how, why, and what these women experienced before, during, and after the war. Our journey concludes at one of the former “comfort houses” on Jalan Jurong Kechil, providing a poignant reminder of the sinister past.

Don’t miss this chance to connect with history and gain a deeper understanding of Singapore’s complex heritage. Book your spot now for a captivating experience that combines education, respect, and reflection.
