Discover the hidden gem of Ulu Sembawang, once a bustling part of the SAF (Singapore Armed Forces) training grounds. Villagers here were used to soldiers sneaking a rambutan or two during fruit seasons. The entire stretch of Jalan Ulu Sembawang was dotted with charming villages.
Many have forgotten that this road once connected all the way to Sembawang Road, passing through picturesque farms reminiscent of the Cameron Highlands. Ducks paddled in serene ponds, giving the area an authentic kampong feel. The area is home to a variety of flora and fauna, making it a haven for nature enthusiasts and bird watchers.
The vegetable farms, though lacking modern technology, appeared meticulously manicured. However, all this changed as Singapore moved forward, leaving behind its nostalgic past to embrace new challenges.
Today, Ulu Sembawang is part of the Park Connector Network (PCN), quietly awaiting its future. For true nature lovers, this is a perfect opportunity to explore and admire the Ulu Sembawang Sunrise Trail.
Join us at Han’s Café, next to Springleaf MRT, at 8.30am on Sunday, 20th October 2024. The tour will conclude around 11.30am, possibly extending to 12pm, at Woodlands South MRT. Don’t forget your bus card, as we’ll be taking the bus to Mandai Road.
Come and experience the tranquil beauty of Ulu Sembawang! Whether you’re exploring the trails or simply soaking in the beauty of the sunrise, Ulu Sembawang offers a truly enriching experience.
